Genre Choice For Film - Thriller

The genre I chose my opening sequence to be is going to be thriller. I produced this solution because during my research I found more things in common with the opening film I am going to make and the genre thriller. For instance, in my opening film I am going to start off as a girl wakes up to her whole family missing. For a better understanding here is my pitch, "Imagine waking up to the sign of no one in your house as you soon to realize you’re the only one left in the world..." Just by reading this you already have a feeling of suspension and anticipation of what and how something is going to happen in the film. Therefore, my thriller is going to match perfectly with the way I will be creating my film. The definition of a thriller film is, "Thrillers are characterized and defined by the moods they elicit, giving viewers heightened feelings of suspense, excitement, surprise, anticipation and anxiety." This is the exact type of feeling I am trying to portray to my audience in my film. The film thriller also uses common props like pistols, knives, and weapons to make it more suspenseful. I am planning to show a clip in my film of a weapon, not necessarily a gun but maybe a knife. One other thing I can say that helped me know thriller was the best option for my film was because of common angles I had in mind. The angles I was picturing to use were such as tilt shots and close-up shots to really get the idea of just how suspenseful I am trying to make it look. Most common angles used in thriller are those I will mostly be using so therefor it is another reason thriller is the best fit. I am planning to interpret a lot of suspenseful sounds in my film as well. During the part of my film that is going to be creating the mood and overall feeling of anticipation for the audience is where I want to present a dialogue sound which is commonly used in thriller films as well. The editing I am planning to use is going to be both fast pace and slow pace editing for different scenes. The fast pace editing I am going to use in one scene to really shows the extension and severance of that scene. I 'am going to use the slow pace editing in one scene as well to show the suspense of the situation occurring and to make the audience feel more connected with the characters' life. One important thing about thriller films is how they have conflict. Conflict is a good element of thriller because every thriller movie provides conflict. In my film I want to show more than just a suspenseful feeling, I want my audience to have a feeling on edge that makes them want to know answers faster than they can get. By saying this I plan by starting the film off with the audience having a lot of questions already so they can be slowly answered throughout the film. Thriller seems the overall best choice for this film, saying that most of its elements are going to be presented in my film as well.
