Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 monkeys, the full length movie
12 monkey's and Lee Jetée video
My takeaway from this video was the original videos of both 12 monkeys and la Jette were described as still images with voice and sound. They never wanted to remake but they wanted to make a homage to La Jetée which is known as one of the most extraordinary films ever made.
Some valuable information I gathered while watching this video 12 monkeys Is based on Lee Jette. Black and white photographs help create a good documentary, giving a more realistic look.
How I envisioned this helping me through my short film process by learning good tactics to use and do during my short film. For example, something as simple as putting a louder audio over a certain image accentuates the visuals.
12 monkey's articles
My takeaway from this article 12 monkeys was a more modern edge. He has a distinctive style in the film. I feel that 12 monkeys hold a better place in the category of science fiction films compared to La Jette.
Some valuable information I gathered while reading the article about 12 monkeys is they incorporate themselves strongly in the film's plot. The overall feeling of the movie is a good comparison to the other science fiction movie by Gilliam called Brazil. The have similar sounds and music along with similar shots used throughout the films. Presented in the 12 monkeys movie Gilliam expands upon the movie La Jette as well by breaking down the realism in that film rather than giving his version of it. I learned that the film 12 monkeys is not meant to be a copy of the film la Jetée it is a longer homage of sorts where there are seen more scientific advances in the instruments shown throughout 12 monkeys.
How I envisioned this helping me through my short film process Is by showing there are no limitations to when I am filmmaking.
Lee Jetée article
My takeaway from this article Lee Jetée is that it is a groundbreaking film and is vastly deep in subtext. My main takeaway from this article is that it was a creative film put together by unrelated images to create a storyline that created a definitive plot throughout the film.
Some valuable information I gathered while reading the article about Lee Jetée is that it is a film told by through a combination of still monochrome images and is a voice over of a man. The death for the narrator strikes as something particularly important although you could not place why Is that until the end of the film. Chris put together a very provoking film with all the different elements he used throughout the process. He blended together so many different elements while also making something innovative.
How I envisioned this helping me through my short film process Is by explaining and giving examples of how a true versatility of a film really looks like and what they consist of.
