Genre Research - Thriller
The other genre I am choosing to research is the genre of thriller.
Common CAMS in thriller are such as close-up shots, titled angles, low angle shots, and extreme long shots. For example, if there is something that is suspicious or about to happen in a thriller film, using these angles helps the audience's eyes get drawn to a scene in a specific way showing them clues and signs.
Common Clamps used in the genre thriller can be an example of low-key lighting. This is one of the most common lightings used in thriller movies today. Lowkey lighting is a lighting aesthetic used with a lot of shadow scenes to create suspense or a feeling of mystery in thrillers as well. Common props used in thriller movies can be examples of weapons like wide ranges of different guns, knives, broken glass, mask, phone, money and many more. I am most certain that someone has not watched a thriller movie that has not included one of the following. These common props can be found in thriller movies like gone girl, Candyman, the hunt, and 10 Cloverfield lane. Using such props can be the cause of such a suspenseful scene with a lot going on. For example, if one character has a gun prop but the other does not it can go wrong very quickly. Common make up used in thriller films can be examples of one that are used to make fake blood, cuts, scratches, and wounds.
Common editing used in thriller movies can be examples of parallel editing. This technique is mostly used to show the audience what two characters are doing at the same time but while in separate locations as they may have impacts on each other. This is to help the reader see what is really going on. For example, if there is a girl hiding in a room, but we need to see where or what the killer is doing on the other side this could be used.
Examples of thriller films are those like Don't breathe Annabelle, and parasite.
Common sounds in thriller films are examples of dark and eerie sounds.
Common elements of thriller movies are examples of a ticking clock, a impacted story, and multiple points of views.
Common elements of thriller that do not appeal to me can be sometimes an example of a killer ending. The reason I say sometimes because if the killing is happening to the right person, then I will be happy. There sometimes are movies that end tremendously wrong and people ending up dead you wish did not die.
